Queer Joy Interview #2: Anonymous
I met with a friend who wanted to stay anonymous (Any pronouns) on 4/13/2024 about their life in Tyler, TX, living outside of East Texas, and friendship.
"Queer joy for me, is feeling like you can be safe and completely yourself somewhere. Seeing something that represents you, like a pride flag or something rainbow, and knowing there's a safe space for you.... that's Queer joy seeing a safe space, finding community, and just little places to be accepted."
“This picture was taken, June 2022, it was Pride Month. I got the Dr. Martens and the rainbow laces. And so a certain Starbucks in Tyler puts out all sorts of pride flags and I remember going there, I would always feel so cool. I just felt like, ‘Oh my gosh, my rainbows are matching,’ ‘Oh, this is a really gay moment,’ and ‘This is so rainbow right now. And I love it.’Â
"My friends and I would go [to Starbucks] together, it's one of our favorite things to do. Just sit and get a coffee, spend most of our days together... So outside the picture is, I think at that time when I was taking the picture it was quiet, but I know that that picture is surrounded with laughter and love because we were sharing our coffee day together."
